Distillation is a unique immersive performance that invites audiences to experience the Irish bog landscape through scent, sound, story and touch. Created by acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Luke Casserly in collaboration with perfumer Joan Woods, the work responds to the recent end of peat harvesting in Ireland and explores our changing relationship with the landscapes that have shaped us.

Part interactive lecture, part performance, audiences gather around a specially designed table and are gently invited to engage with natural materials, scents and sensory elements drawn from the Irish Midlands boglands. Combining original text, video, sound design and sculpture, Distillation offers a moving reflection on memory, place, ecology and the future of Ireland’s changing landscapes.

Premiered at Dublin Theatre Festival in 2023, this critically acclaimed production creates a deeply personal and thought-provoking encounter with the natural world. Each audience member will receive a sample of the bespoke perfume created for the project, allowing the experience to linger long after the performance ends.
