Award‑winning novelist and poet Jenni Fagan discusses The Delusions, her bold and brilliant new novel set in the afterlife’s chaotic admin department.
Join acclaimed Scottish novelist and poet Jenni Fagan for an in‑depth conversation about her electrifying fifth novel, The Delusions. Winner of the Gordon Burn Prize and named one of Granta’s Best Young British Novelists, Fagan is celebrated for her fierce originality and visionary, lyrical storytelling. Praised by writers including Ali Smith, Jackie Kay and Douglas Stuart, she continues to push the boundaries of contemporary fiction.
Her new novel is a cosmic and deeply human tale set within the afterlife’s vast administrative system. At its centre is Edi, forty‑seven years into processing the newly dead, just as rumours spread that humans may soon be banned as a species and Earth itself repossessed. Amid the rising chaos, Edi clings to one hope: the chance to see the son she left behind when she died.
Blending wit, wonder and profound emotional insight, The Delusions asks what any of us might be willing to do for love at the very edge of eternity. This promises to be a rich, thought‑provoking conversation with one of Britain’s most exciting literary voices.
