Maintaining an online presence as a writer: how, what and why?

Information

Some kind of online presence seems essential for writers these days, but the questions of where and what and how much seem ever harder to answer as a once stable world of social media continues to fracture. Join poet and digital media professional Naomi Head to discuss websites, newsletters and social media, and explore what might be the best options for you. We'll also be considering how often you should be updating pages, and where to draw the line between the personal and professional.

Naomi Head (she/they) is a digital media professional based in Edinburgh. She started working in marketing, social media, and website editing in 2019 with TimeOut Beijing. Since their return to the UK in 2020, Naomi has worked across a range of industries, including travel and tourism, business localisation, arts and entertainment, music, charity and third sector, mental health and wellbeing, e-commerce, social enterprise, and more. She is currently the Marketing and social media officer for Scotland's premier spoken word organisation, I Am Loud. Naomi also runs The Good Egg Project newsletter and events, connecting writers with opportunities to find and sustain their own success. Find out more at thegoodeggproject.substack.com

Naomi is also a poet and writer. Their work has been published and shared locally and internationally by Muted Minds, SNACK, Edinburgh Lit Salon, The Poetry Experiment, Glyph Lit Mag, Dulcify Journal, I Am Loud, Sunday Mornings at the River, Beyond the Veil Press, and others. She published her poetry zine, Kitchen Love (illustrated by Hana Khan and printed by Typewronger Riso Studio) in 2023.
