Outlander star and champion of Galloway, Sam Heughan headlines the festival's flagship Sunday session, in conversation, then mixing cocktails alongside chefs Rosemary Shrager and Julie Lin
The festival's flagship Sunday session belongs to Sam Heughan, the actor whose championing of Galloway has placed this part of southwest Scotland firmly on the cultural map. From his work on screen, most famously as Jamie Fraser in Outlander, to The Sassenach Spirit and the launch of Galloway Distillery last year, Sam has made his commitment to this region unmistakable — and in that ambition for Galloway's future, he shares common ground with the festival itself.
This very special two-hour session opens with Sam in conversation, exploring his life, his career and what Galloway means to him. It’s a chance to hear, in his own words, what has shaped one of the area's most internationally recognised names, and why he’s made such a firm commitment to champion Galloway’s future. This is a rare opportunity to spend time with someone whose star has travelled the world but whose roots remain here.
The second half of the session moves from talk to taste. Sam will prepare two signature cocktails, each paired with a dish from Rosemary Shrager and Julie Lin, the two chefs cooking alongside him. The dishes will be inspired by the produce of Galloway's landscape and coastline, a fitting tribute to the place at the heart of the afternoon.
On arrival, attendees will be welcomed with a Sassenach dram or a Galloway Distillery cocktail (or non-alcoholic alternative), plus macaroni made from the cheese that carries our region’s name, made right here in Stranraer by the festival’s headline sponsor, Lactalis. Sam's chosen cocktails will also be available throughout the weekend in the Galloway Distillery cocktail bar.
Due to the inclusion of alcohol, this event is designed for those aged 18 and over.
