Henrick Jensen Trio

7:45pm ‐ 11:00pm
1000 Trades
16 Frederick St, Birmingham, B1 3HE

Information

A new constellation of three remarkable musicians who are exploring the compositions by bassist Henrik Jensen, performing songs from their ‘Above The House’ recording. With a strong focus on interplay the trio blurs the lines between the composed and improvised material. An open sound that allows for a lyrical approach but also appreciates the high energy of rhythmic complexity in both swing and groove. Henrik Jensen as a composer, powerful double bassist, and a busy sideman for leaders such as Iain Ballamy, Michael Blake, Joy Ellis, Bruno Heinen and John Law, Jensen has also released 3 albums with his quartet ‘Followed by Thirteen’.
The Henrik Jensen Trio is a refined and dynamic jazz ensemble that brings together three exceptional talents in European jazz. At its core is Danish bassist and composer Henrik Jensen, whose melodic sensibility and thoughtful compositions provide the foundation for the trio’s sound. He is joined by Esben Tjalve on piano, whose harmonic elegance and cinematic touch add emotional depth, and Dave Smith on drums, whose rhythmic precision and adventurous spirit give the music its pulse and momentum.
Together, the trio crafts music that is lyrical yet exploratory, blending the intimacy of chamber jazz with the spontaneity of improvisation. Their performances balance subtle nuance with bold expression—each piece unfolding like a conversation, full of texture, interplay, and storytelling. With their 2024 debut album Above Your House, the Henrik Jensen Trio has established itself as a compelling voice in modern jazz, inviting audiences into a sound world that is both serene and strikingly alive.
Line Up: Henrick Jensen – Bass, Esben Tjalve – Piano & Dave Smith – Drums
