Join us for an engaging afternoon of fresh literary voices as Dr. Una Mannion, acclaimed author and Assistant Professor in Literary Practice at the Trinity Oscar Wilde Centre, chairs a special panel featuring three of Ireland’s most exciting debut authors.
In this discussion, our panellists will share insights into the writing process, the journey to publication, and the themes that shape their first books:
Seán Farrell, whose debut novel Frogs for Watchdogs (New Island, 2025) draws on his years living in France and his Midlands upbringing, now writes from his home in Sligo, where he lives with his wife, novelist Elske Rahill, and their four children.
Maggie Armstrong, author of Old Romantics (Tramp Press, 2024), brings a sharp and distinctive voice to the panel. Her work has appeared in The Dublin Review, Banshee, The Stinging Fly, and more. She has been shortlisted for both the Irish Book Awards Newcomer of the Year and the Kate O’Brien Award.
Shane Tivenan, winner of the Francis MacManus Prize and the John McGahern Award, joins the panel with his debut collection To Avenge a Dead Glacier (The Lilliput Press, 2024). A native of County Roscommon, his writing has featured in The Stinging Fly, The London Magazine, and on RTÉ Radio 1.
This is a rare opportunity to hear from three outstanding new literary talents, each with a distinct voice and a bright future. Expect a thought-provoking and inspiring evening of discussion and readings.
