Aberlady Bay, Gullane, Luffness circular

Information

This is a 15km / 9.5 mile circular walk from Aberlady through the nature reserve along the beautiful East Lothian coast to the village of Gullane – famous for its world-class golf courses and heritage. Here we will get wonderful views of Fife and the Three Bridges across the River Forth.

We skirt Gullane and continue along the lovely sandy beach and then turn inland at Black Rocks, where we will walk through a pine forest.

We will then return through Gullane and walk along a disused railway, passing by the remains of Saltcoats Castle. The final section is through the wooded Luffness Estate where you may catch a glimpse of roe deer.

More information
The paths are generally good underfoot but please note there are a couple of rough rocky beach sections.

We cannot accommodate dogs are they are not allowed in the Aberlady Nature Reserve.

A good level of fitness is required.

There are toilet facilities at Aberlady Bay nature reserve, Gullane beach and Gullane village.

There are no cafes on this walk.

What to bring
Walking boots and waterproofs are essential. Also bring a morning snack, a packed lunch, a flask and at least a litre of water, and perhaps a mat or something to sit on.

You might also like to bring your own basic first aid kit.

Getting there
The meeting point is outside Aberlady kirk, Main Street, EH32 0RB. There is a regular bus service to Aberlady (124 and X5). If travelling by car, on street parking is available but limited. What3Words: ///notch.executive.continued
