American-style ceilidh - an inclusive community dance with live music.
Contra dance comes all the way from America and is cousin to the familiar Scottish ceilidh. Contra is a little smoother and gentler, the figures are a little different, and the music has a different accent.
Live music from special guests Round Robin Round. This trio that play like they're dancing. Abi Sandy, Crystal Zhu, and Sasha Stolasz came together through the Edinburgh session scene, and their soaring arrangements and driving rhythms have energised pubs and dance halls on both sides of the Atlantic. They cannot wait to play for Edinburgh Contra again after Abi and Sasha were a smash hit at our May dance!
All dances will be called by guest caller Bev Bernbaum, all the way from Ontario, Since the 1990s, Bev has been in demand as a caller at dances, dance weekends and camps across Canada, the US, New Zealand, Denmark and the Czech Republic. Communities seek Bev out to provide a great experience for their dancers. Her easy going style has also made her a popular choice with bands. Bev's philosophy is to call dances that she loves to dance herself.
She's always on the lookout for interesting figures or formations to mix things up. Her clear voice, calm manner and straightforward teaching style make dancing a pleasure for both beginning and experienced dancers.
