President Trump is back, and the world is adapting to his radical America first agenda. Despite control of both houses of Congress and of the Supreme Court, internal and external challenges remain. From the cost-of-living crisis to immigration and healthcare at home, to global implications of trade tariffs, US foreign policy, the populism and protectionism stance rules. So where do Europe, the UK and Scotland stand on our transatlantic partner?

Professor Murray Leith is Professor of Political Science and Director of CMDCI (Centre for Migration, Diaspora Citizenship and Identity) at the University of the West of Scotland. A strong interdisciplinary scholar, he focuses on Scottish/UK and US politics and society and has published widely around issues of nationalism, national identity, and diaspora.
Susan Coughtrie has been director of the international affairs think tank the Foreign Policy Centre since January 2023. She is also a co-chair of the UK Anti-Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation Coalition, which she co-founded in 2021, a trustee for the Campaign for Freedom of Information in Scotland (CFoIS) and an Honorary Fellow at City St George's, University of London.
