A fragile peace plan has been brokered between Israel and Gaza, but will it stick? What of the humanitarian crisis that is estimated to have displaced 1.9 million of a population of 2.2 million Palestinians? What is the impact and influence on regional powers Iran and Saudi Arabia, and what of pathways to peace and stability in the Middle East? What is the role of the international community?

Panellists: 
Professor Peter Jackson is chair in Global Security at the University of Glasgow and executive director with The Scottish Council on Global Affairs. He has taught at many universities including Cambridge, Yale, Aberystwyth and Strathclyde and been visiting professor at the Université de Paris. Peter edited the leading journal Intelligence and National Security for many years.
Alice Copland is the policy and parliamentary affairs manager at the Foreign Policy Centre. Throughout her career, she has engaged parliamentarians and decision makers from Europe and the Gulf-Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to support sustainable policy change. Alice has expertise on countries in the Gulf-MENA and on issues relating to gender and women, peace and security.
Dr Nida Alahmad is a senior lecturer in Politics and International Relations of the Middle East at the University of Edinburgh. Her most recent publication is a forthcoming book with Cambridge University Press called State Matters: Theorising State Fragmentation and Consolidation from Iraq.
