An exploration of the recent work of Dublin composer, Kevin Free.
This evening will explore the recent work of Dublin composer, Kevin Free. The content will be inspired by his doctoral studies over the last few years. This aims to showcase some of the music he has written and how his compositional process has developed over this period. Focusing on listening to the music that was composed for this project as much as to talk about it.
This will look at some of the acoustic music that he has written over the last few years: Musing on the sky’s over Dublin and the Alps, the cats Gertrude and Borris and their kitchen antics, and the setting of text by GM Hopkins as well as how all this process has developed across the period.
Kevin will also discuss his use of speechmelody, and how he transforms the digital detritus found online, creating fast paced works that are as absurd as they are humorous. These stretch from how to perfectly dice an onion to how Rockwell Automation's Retro Encabulator’s new dingle-arm reduces sinusoidal depleneration. How Bach is his favourite composer, he’s just phenomenal. Topping it off with how to make a perfect cup of coffee.
