Join Janet Jack, a former Great Britain and Scotland Hockey player, Olympian and recognised Performance Pathway Coach of the Year (COV awards), as she discusses the importance of empowering girls in sport.
Loretto School invites parents, pupils and the wider school community to join us in welcoming Janet Jack to the theatre to discuss why empowering girls and women in sport has never been more important. In the UK, 43% of teenage girls who one saw themselves as “sporty” disengage after primary school. Over a million girls lose confidence, connection, and opportunity. By age 16-17, around 64% have dropped out, with the gap between girls and boys widening from as early as age seven. The talk will explore why. From fear of judgement and low confidence to body image pressures, puberty, and lack of opportunity, the challenges are real. Too often, sport, education, and health systems have been built without women in mind, leaving girls feeling like they don’t belong. Knowledge builds confidence. When girls understand their bodies, ask questions, and challenge outdated ideas, they take back control. This is more than a conversation – it’s a movement. By being open and having honest discussions, we can help every girl feel seen, supported and strong. Mind the gaps – then help close them.
