Singular US songwriter who has produced a treasure trove of cryptic gems and outsider magic
Califone is an acclaimed musical project centred around Tim Rutili and a regular and rotating list of contributors.
Formed out of the Chicago band ‘Red Red Meat’, they've been exploring the tension between experimental noise, acoustic texture, technology, humanity, cinematic images and microscopic poetry since 1998 with over a dozen albums of sleeper hits and enduring classics.
Having previously released through labels such as Thrill Jockey, Dead Oceans, and Sub Pop, Califone’s recent work has been described as some of his “warmest and most welcoming yet”. In a career that has produced a treasure trove of cryptic gems and outsider magic, Califone and collaborators have tapped a newfound efficiency within their shared love of the strange, channelling it into some of the band’s most fetching songs ever. This chapter of candid, matter-of-fact songwriting has clarity and heart in abundance.
We are delighted to welcome Califone to The American Bar Belfast, for a small but perfectly formed night of music. Space is limited - book early!
