Ireland’s elder statesman of jazz guitar, Derry-born Tommy Halferty, makes a welcome return to the club. Throughout a career lasting almost 50 years as a professional musician, Halferty has played across the world with some of the finest musicians in both Irish and international jazz, such as George Mraz, Norma Winstone, Lee Konitz, John Abercrombie and Stephane Grapelli.
No stranger to exploring different musical cultures and places, Halferty has worked with traditional musicians, but also draws influence from Indian music, Flamenco and Arabic music. He is considered one of the first Irish jazz musician to export a distinctly indigenous style to a more worldwide setting.
For this outing at Scott’s Jazz Club, Tommy’s trio will be joined by renowned French bassist Michel Zenino. A student at Berklee in the US, Zenino has had a long career touring and performing with Richard Galliano, Eddie Henderson, Hermeto Pascoal, Danilo Perez and Arturo Sandoval. This trio will be rounded by Scott Flanigan on piano, playing a mixture of pieces by Steve Swallow, Ornette Coleman and Milton Nascimento.
