Distractions is the fourth album by Glasgow-based DIY singer/songwriter Sulka. The record documents a step outside of the bedroom recordings of previous efforts, being produced with the help of Chris McCrory (Walt Disco, Savage Mansion) and tracked along with a live band. It is a semi ‘best of’ collection, with some tracks like ‘Ephemeral’ dating back to Sulka’s 2017 debut and others being previously released as acoustic demos on the Front Door EP (2022). The lyrics on the album tell stories of escapism of various forms, whether through relationships, parties or the pursuit of music. Distractions takes a journey through many highs and lows of emotion, exploring sounds from indie-folk to shoegaze and grunge. The album is available on vinyl courtesy of Lost Map and Gold Mold Records.
“The musical chameleon has lost none of his diversity, channelling his varied influences into an impressively cohesive set of songs. [...] It is a deep and comfortable listen, and a perfect album to distract you from all the other noise of modern living. ” - Craig Howieson, Snack Mag
“The album is sonically deep but still showcases Clasen’s absolutely top tier songwriting ability […]
Often described as a ‘musician’s musician’, Sulka is criminally overlooked by the masses and Distractions deserves a space in any music-lover’s collection”
